Response to The Diluted Church has been wide and varied. As a means to help a would be reader, I have gathered these details from Amazon.com and other places. This file will give you much additional information to the downloadable sections that you can preview. The table below is an analysis of the book based on some industry-established tests that are explained below.

The Fog Index is a readability test designed to show how “easy” a text is to read. The Gunning Fog Index gives the number of years of education that your reader hypothetically needs to understand the text. For reference, the New York Times has an average Fog Index of 11-12, Time magazine is about 11. Typically, technical documentation has a Fog Index between 10 and 15, and professional prose almost never exceeds 18. Information on this index was taken from: http://www.usingenglish.com/glossary/fog-index.html

The Flesch/Flesch-Kincaid Readability Test is a different test designed to indicate how “difficult” a passage is to understand. There are two tests, the Flesch Reading Ease, and the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level. Although they supposedly use the same measures, just placed into a different scale, the results of the two tests do not always correlate (a text with a better score on the Reading Ease test over another text may end up with a worse score on the Grade Level test).

This test has become a U.S. governmental standard. Many government agencies require documents or forms to meet specific readability levels. Most states require insurance forms to score 40-50 on the test. The U.S. Department of Defense uses the Reading Ease test as the standard test of readability for its documents and forms. Information on this index was taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flesch-Kincaid_Readability_Test

Recommended Reading
I have shared a list of works that have impacted my life and the way I understand things. Many times a reader is only made privy to the source material an author quotes, when in fact these usually are the most gritty and illustrative that can be used as a support basis for a thesis. To be sure there is usually a lot more material that could be referenced, but objectivity usually suppresses the volume of information presented in a volume. This section in the back of the book helps to give further resources to those who would be interested.

Indexing
The Diluted Church is not the kind of book that should be read and set on the shelf. It is the type that one will want to read and reread. Most readers will want to go back into the book and find little nuggets, illustrations or concepts. This index will be very helpful to find concepts and specific details very easily.
